Athletes Giulia Spinelli and Pedro Morrot, from Mais Querido's swimming team, and Maria Julia Marques and coach Renata Valente, from gymnastics, travel to Morocco this Tuesday (1) to compete in the Gymnasiade. The tournament, held every two years, takes place between May 2 and 9, and is often compared to the Olympic Games in the international school scene.

Maria Julia earned a spot on the Brazilian National Team by winning the Brazilian Student Championship, a competition that serves as the National Trials for the Gymnasiade, in March. In São Paulo, she won the gold medal in the individual all-around and in the balance beam and parallel bars events. With this result, the gymnast placed first and secured her passport to Morocco. Giulia and Pedro also secured their selection through the Trials. They are part of the group of 24 athletes who will compete in the sport.

The artistic gymnastics competitions will take place in Marrakesh, the capital of Morocco. Swimming will be hosted by Casablanca. This will be the 17th edition of the Gymnasiade, with Brazil as the defending champion. The inaugural title was won in 2016 in Turkey.

The artistic gymnastics and swimming teams of Clube de Regatas do Flamengo rely on resources from their sponsors – AmBev, Rede D'or, IRB Brasil RE, CSN, Brasil Plural, EY – via the Federal Incentive Law/Ministry of Sports (IR), in addition to support from the Brazilian Committee of Clubs (CBC) resulting from the decentralization of resources originating from the Pelé Law.
