With two Flamengo players competing on the apparatus, the Brazilian artistic gymnastics team reached the team podium at the Pan American Games in Toronto this Sunday (July 12.07). With 165,400 points, Flamengo players Julie Kim Sinmon and Letícia Costa won bronze as a team, alongside Daniele Hypolito, Flávia Saraiva, and Lorrane Oliveira. The Brazilian team also has another Flamengo player, the experienced Jade Barbosa, who assists and advises her teammates as a reserve. In addition to the gymnasts, Flamengo coach Keli Kitaura is part of the delegation.
The girls finished behind only the United States, which scored 173,800, and Canada, with 166,500. Julie was the last to perform on the apparatus and significantly helped Brazil secure the team medal. "I was a little nervous, but then I thought we trained hard for this and we just had to do everything we trained for," the gymnast said.
Letícia Costa was also happy to have helped the group win the medal with strong performances. "The team result is an additional responsibility because we depend on each other. When we make mistakes, we demand more of ourselves because we want to do our best for the team," she explained.
The events also served as qualifiers for the Individual All-Around and the apparatus competition. The apparatus finals begin this Tuesday (July 14.07) at 14:35 p.m. Brazil will compete in three of them: floor, vault, and balance beam. The latter will feature Flamengo athlete Julie Kim, who placed sixth with a score of 13,750.
