By Romulo Paranhos - in2018 was a very positive year for Flamengo's artistic gymnastics. One of the club's most traditional Olympic sports, the sport had a season full of important achievements, both in teams and individual performances, culminating in the call-ups of four athletes from Flamengo (Jade Barbosa, Flavia Saraiva, Jade Barbosa, Lorrane Oliveira, and Rebeca Andrade) to the Brazilian National Team. Now, it's only fair that our girls will have a period of rest to renew their energy. This Thursday (20), the Flamengo gymnasts will go on break, with their return to training scheduled for January 7, when they will begin preparing for the numerous competitions they will face in 2019.
"Our athletes return from recess in early January, undergo CUIDAR evaluation, and begin preparing for competitions. This was my second year leading Flamengo's artistic gymnastics, and this season was marked by significant progress, with very satisfactory results. We're still revamping some things and becoming increasingly structured, but despite this, we managed to win some championships, and even in those that didn't win the title, we performed well in all categories, from children to adults," said Ângelo Sabino, Flamengo's coach.
"We also achieved very impressive results in international competitions, with Jade, Flavinha, Rebeca, and Lorrane. Furthermore, we won the efficiency trophy, which is given to the most successful club of the year across all categories, and Flamengo hadn't won this award in about six years. So, I consider it a very good year, and I hope we can improve even further in 6, always striving to bring new titles to Gávea," he concluded.
The official calendar of the Brazilian Gymnastics Confederation for 2019 has not yet been released.
The artistic gymnastics teams of Clube de Regatas do Flamengo rely on resources from their sponsors – AmBev, Rede D'or, IRB Brasil RE, CSN, Brasil Plural, EY – via the Federal Incentive Law/Ministry of Sports (IR), in addition to support from the Brazilian Committee of Clubs (CBC) resulting from the decentralization of resources originating from the Pelé Law.
