Daniele Hypolito: "We have the opportunity to make history with this group"
Before the first training session after the return of international friendlies with the gymnastics team, the red-black spoke exclusively to Flamengo's Official Website

They had barely arrived in Brazil, after 20 days of friendlies and training in Portugal and the Netherlands, and they went to the Claudio Coutinho gymnasium, in Gávea, to train on Tuesday morning (12). The Brazilian artistic gymnastics team's not-so-easy routine includes a lot of discipline and almost exclusive dedication to the sport. Of the five starting athletes that make up the Olympic group, four are athletes from Flamengo - the largest multi-sport club in the country. Daniele Hypolito, one of the national team's gymnasts and one of the greatest symbols of Flamengo gymnastics, is one of them. The experienced 31-year-old gymnast spoke exclusively with Flamengo's official website.

Friendlies and international training
We spent 20 days away from Brazil, and during those days we did activities at the Training Center in Portugal, in Anadia, where the World Cup was held, and then we trained there. We also competed in the friendly against the Netherlands to determine their Olympic team. It was good for us as a team, to get a better understanding of our integration. It was a competition that wasn't initially on our calendar, but it was important for our evaluation as a team. In a group, when you go a long time without competing as a team, these experiences are good for us to get a better understanding of where we are and our chances. Of course, a lot of people were surprised because we "invaded" the Dutch competition (laughs). But our stay was great, the city was very beautiful, the group was very cohesive. Being together with the team that's going to the Olympics was also very important. Every training session we do now until we enter the Olympic Village (on the 30th) will be very important.
The 2016 Olympic group
"It's a group that has become very strong, combining renewal and experience. It's going to be very good for us. With the team we have today, we have a huge opportunity to make history as a whole. We had the opportunity to be Olympic finalists as a team in 2008, but I think this group is stronger than it was at the Beijing Olympics, more consistent. It's a group that has been performing well in all competitions."
Dani in 2016
- I actually see myself doing my part while also taking care of them as an older sister, because I'm still too young to be their mother (laughs). Wanting to know if everyone is okay, being concerned not only about training, but also about how each of them is doing. That's true care. It's reaching out and asking about their psychological, emotional, and non-gym issues as well. I think I'm managing to do both these days.
Message to the Red-Black Nation
- This gigantic, enormous, energetic Nation! I'm here as a Flamengo fan, calling on all of you because we have many Flamengo representatives on the Olympic teams. So I hope you all cheer, cheer with us, and bring that energy into these games.
The Brazilian women's artistic gymnastics team travels this Thursday (14) to Curitiba, in Paraná, where they will be training and making final preparations for the Rio-2016 competitions. On the 30th, the gymnasts will enter the Olympic Village for total concentration and focus on the main objective.
The gymnastics teams of Clube de Regatas do Flamengo have support from the Brazilian Club Confederation (CBC) from the decentralization of resources originating from the Pelé Law and with resources from its sponsor – MRS Logística – via the Federal Incentive Law/Ministry of Sport (IR).
