The world took a while to believe it, but two-time floor exercise world champion Diego Hypólito fell as he finished his last acrobatic exercise in the series presented in the floor exercise final, held on Sunday morning (17/8), in Beijing.

The gymnast, who was one of the favorites for gold and was confident, executed flawless movements. However, a fall at the end of the performance ended any chance the Brazilian had of taking first place on the Olympic podium. Diego received a score of 15.200, finishing his Olympic Games in 6th place.

Jade Barbosa, a red-and-black gymnast, also failed to win a medal. After reaching three finals, the gymnast finished 7th on the vault, with 14.487 points.

Both opted for singles to secure good scores and get as close as possible to an Olympic medal. In the history of artistic gymnastics at the Games, Brazil has never finished as highly as it did in Beijing. Jade and Daniele reached the Team final, where they placed eighth; Jade reached the Individual All-Around final, where she finished 10th, Brazil's highest finish to date, and the Vault final, where she finished 7th; and Diego Hypólito, the star of the men's team, placed 6th on Floor.
