Diego Hypólito is one of three candidates for the Brazilian Olympic Awards. Considered the Oscar of Brazilian sport, the award is the ultimate recognition for athletes who have excelled throughout the year. Diego Hipólito decided to pursue artistic gymnastics at age 7, influenced by his sister, Daniele Hypólito. In 2009, he placed first in the floor exercise at the World Cup in Slovenia. He won gold in the floor exercise and vault at the World Cup in Glasgow, Scotland, and was the floor exercise champion at the World Cup in Moscow. At the World Championships in London, he reached the floor exercise final and finished ninth. In November, he won his fourth World Cup title in the floor exercise.
