Diego Hypolito wins bronze on the floor at the World Championships and secures a spot at the Olympics

The red-and-black Diego Hypolito won bronze on the floor at the Tokyo World Championships, in the early hours of this Saturday (15.10), scoring 15.466 on the apparatus. With this result, the gymnast has already guaranteed his participation in the London Olympic Games, in 2012, where he could win the first medal in the sport for the country.
Diego, who placed fourth with 15.500, was the first to perform in the final, generating great anticipation after each athlete's performance. The Flamengo gymnast ended up tying with Israel's Alexander Shatilov, the last gymnast to perform, and shared the podium with him. Japan's Kohei Uchimura took gold (15.633), and China's Zou Kai took silver (15.500).
Despite the underwhelming result, it's worth noting that Diego, a two-time world champion on the apparatus in 2005 and 2007, was sidelined for five months due to surgery on his left ankle and only returned to training in March of this year. At the end of his performance, Hypolito was thrilled and, despite his relatively low score, he couldn't hide his tears upon realizing that he would once again stand on the podium of the championship that established his name on the international sports scene.
Jade Barbosa, who competed in the vault final immediately after, wasn't as lucky and finished fourth. Jade's first vault thrilled the crowd, earning her an excellent score of 14.866. However, upon landing her second vault, the gymnast from Gávea twisted her left foot and struggled to stay upright, which affected her score of 14.266. With a final score of 14.566, the athlete who won the silver medal at the 2010 World Championships failed to reach the podium.
Daniele Hypolito competed in the individual all-around final on Thursday (10/13) and finished in 13th place with a score of 55.365. The remarkable little girl's best performance was on the balance beam, where she scored 14.333 points, followed by vault (14.300), floor (13.866) and parallel bars (12.866). With this, she improved her total score compared to the qualifying phase, where she scored 54.557 points.
