Diego Hypolito is out of the Pre-Pan in Mexico

MRI confirms injury to gymnast's left foot

Gymnast Diego Hypolito will not participate in the Guadalajara Pre-Pan Championships later this month. The two-time world champion has not recovered from the severe pain in his left foot (injured two days before the Brazilian Championships in Vitória) and was ruled out this Wednesday after a medical report. An MRI scan revealed that Diego has bone edema in the talus and tenosynovitis of the posterior tibial bone.

"Dr. Robson de Bem, from the Brazilian Gymnastics Confederation, did not authorize my participation in this competition. I spent the entire last week undergoing ice treatment and physical therapy, but my recovery has not progressed. I will have to spend 20 days without competing and undergoing intensive treatment. During this time, I will train the other four apparatuses. As for floor exercise and vault, I will have to wait a little longer," commented Diego.

The Flamengo gymnast regretted his absence from the Pre-Pan, but believes the Brazilian team can play a good role.

"I believe in the potential of Brazilian gymnasts and will be rooting for them. My priority remains the World Championships in October in the Netherlands, and I hope to get there in top physical condition," he added.
