This Friday (17/04), the red-and-black Diego Hypolito won first place in the floor and vault qualifiers of the Artistic Gymnastics World Cup – stage in Maribor, Slovenia.
This Saturday, the reigning two-time world floor champion will compete in the floor final, his specialty. On Sunday, the red-and-black will attempt to take first place on vault.
"I had to postpone 'Hypolito 2' because the refereeing committee wouldn't allow me to perform it in the qualifying rounds. They argued that I needed to have recorded and sent the new exercise on DVD a few days before the competition so the referees could evaluate its value under the new scoring code. So when I return to Brazil, I'll make a copy of this movement to present at the next World Cup stage, which will be in Glasgow, Scotland," said Diego, who, despite being unable to perform his floor routine, finished first in the qualifying round with a score of 15,700.
Aiming to be among the top ranked in the individual all-around, Diego is taking advantage of the World Cup stages to compete on other apparatuses. In the Slovenian qualifiers, the gymnast finished tenth in his parallel bars performance.
