Diego Hypolito operates on his right knee
The red-black athlete will be out for thirty days and will go to London normally

Flamengo gymnast Diego Hypolito underwent surgery on his right knee on Friday morning (16.03), at the Samaritano Hospital, in São Paulo. The arthroscopy procedure was necessary to correct a small tear in the meniscus and cauterize the cartilage. The athlete will be away from training for about a month and his Olympic participation will not be affected.
"The funny thing is that I underwent the same type of surgery, on the same knee, in the same month, before the Beijing Olympics in 2008. That year I was a finalist, so I know I can recover in time to perform well at the London Games," said the confident athlete.
Last week, Diego felt pain in his knee and underwent an MRI that detected the injury. The gymnast then traveled to São Paulo, accompanied by Flamengo's Olympic Sports Supervisor Marcelo Freitas, for a consultation with COB doctors Breno Schor and Wagner Castropil, the latter of whom performed the surgery.
Qualified for the London Olympics since October 2011, when he won bronze on the floor exercise during the Tokyo World Championships, the athlete will be discharged today (March 16.03) and will begin physical therapy. He is scheduled to return to Rio de Janeiro on Monday (March 19.03). Diego is expected to recover in approximately 30 days.
