Diego Hypolito returned to training at the Cláudio Coutinho Gymnasium, Gávea's headquarters, this Thursday (August 13) after undergoing surgery on his left shoulder. During the rehabilitation period, the gymnast worked only his lower limbs. According to Diego, in three weeks he will be ready to intensify his training for the World Championships in London in October.
Upon his return to training, Diego will be able to focus on his new floor routine, a machine in which he specializes. "I'm really looking forward to starting training again and worried about having lost a lot of muscle mass during this recovery period."
It's been 50 days since the surgery. In 2005, the gymnast also underwent surgery on his right ankle and, in less than three weeks, was ready and winning the gold medal. "It's different now. I want to do a test before the World Championships, and I hope it's at the Brazilian Championships, which ended up being postponed. I'm going to the World Championships with a new routine and aiming for my fourth Gymnastics World Cup Grand Final title, a first for me. I want to be the first gymnast to win this title," declared Diego, who intends to remain in the sport for another eight years.
