Diego Hypolito returned to the floor exercise this week after three months of recovery from a left shoulder injury. COB doctor Breno Schor visited Flamengo last Saturday and cleared the gymnast to train directly on the apparatus that has already earned him two world titles. The improvement in his condition has encouraged the athlete, who remains confident in his pursuit of the sport's first Olympic medal for the country.

"I'm very focused. The dream of an Olympic medal in gymnastics motivates me a lot, and to get there ready, to achieve this goal, I need to train. This release was necessary so I can test the routine I have in mind before the Games. Diego's biggest rival is Diego himself," he stated.

The gymnast has once again expressed interest in competing on the vault, despite not yet being ready to train on the apparatus. According to Hypolito, despite his slimmer podium chances, he has the potential to achieve a high competitive score.

"At the Olympics, everyone has a chance and the ability to reach a final and win a medal. Of course, I'll compete on the floor, but if it's up to me, I'll compete on the vault as well. I haven't been cleared yet, so I haven't been able to train this year yet. But I think I'll have time until London," he said.

In April, Diego will compete in his first competition of the year, the Brazil International Meeting in São Paulo. He will only compete on the floor exercise, as there isn't enough time to practice vault. Four other events are planned for his preparation for the Games.
