In 2019, the red-black Artistic Gymnastics team wants to repeat last year's great performance.

By Romulo Paranhos - inIn 2018, Flamengo's artistic gymnastics team achieved excellent results in both the adult and youth categories, in addition to providing several athletes to join the Brazilian National Team. Now, the Flamengo teams will rejoin on January 7th and begin training to prepare for the various competitions that will be held this year. Flamengo aims to repeat and even surpass its 2018 performance, when it won the State Championship and the Brazilian Specialist Championship, in addition to other impressive results in the youth team, which continues to reveal new talent.
Ângelo Sabino, the club's coach, highlighted the excellent performance of the club's youth teams.
"I think our performance was very good. We were champions in the Pre-Kids category, runners-up in the Junior category, and won several medals in apparatus and individual all-around competitions. For 2019, the goal is to maintain and even improve our performance; we're going all out to try to win the Junior title. This year, it's very likely we'll have a full team in the Junior category, as last year we only competed with one athlete. We're very excited; Flamengo's youth academy is recognized as the best in Brazil, both in terms of quality and number of athletes, and we'll do everything we can to raise our level even further," said Ângelo.
In the adult category, representing Brazil, the red-and-blacks Rebeca Andrade, Flavia Saraiva, and Jade Barbosa shone at the Gymnastics World Cup, securing six medals for the country. Flavinha is among the top eight gymnasts in the world, while Jade finished 15th.
The most important competition this season for the Red-Black team, at the national level, will be the Brazilian Team Championship, the date of which has not yet been set. Internationally, the Red-Black athletes who make up the Brazilian National Team will face the World Championship, which will be held in Stuttgart, Germany.
The artistic gymnastics teams of Clube de Regatas do Flamengo rely on resources from their sponsors – AmBev, Rede D'or, IRB Brasil RE, CSN, Brasil Plural, EY – via the Federal Incentive Law/Ministry of Sports (IR), in addition to support from the Brazilian Committee of Clubs (CBC) resulting from the decentralization of resources originating from the Pelé Law.
