The audience that gathered at the Sogipa gymnasium for the first day of the finals of the Brazilian Artistic Gymnastics Trophy had the privilege of witnessing beautiful performances by the red-and-black team. Rebeca Andrade and Diogo Soares won two gold medals, and Jade Barbosa and Diogo Soares won two silver medals.

On the uneven bars, Olympic champion Rebeca Andrade shone, scoring 14.600. With a series characterized by skillful movement coordination and near-perfect execution, the gymnast impressed the audience and judges. The silver medal went to Jade Barbosa, who delivered a clean performance but with a simpler start.

"I was really happy because everything went well," commented Rebeca. "We know we can always improve a little more, but I thought my execution was good. In some exercises, I could have done more handstands, but I'm satisfied because my routine in the final was good. This gives me more confidence going into the next competitions and knowing that I'm feeling the equipment, becoming more confident in my performance."

Rebeca also described the emotion she felt upon seeing the crowd again – the Troféu Brasil is the first competition with fans in attendance since the beginning of the pandemic. “It's incredible to compete in front of a crowd again, to see the children, to see what an inspiration I am to them today, and the joy of the parents as well. Seeing the joy in the children's eyes is what motivates me most. The only thing that was difficult to manage was the cold here in Porto Alegre. I live in Rio and I'm not used to it. But everything went well. Tomorrow (Sunday, the 22nd) I'll have another final (beam). I hope I'm strong.”

In the jump, little Hellen Vitória finished sixth.

Diogo Soares, who made his Flamengo debut and already had an Olympic all-around final under his belt, took the floor exercise with a score of 13.733. Among other moves, the Flamengo player performed a double somersault with a double pirouette and a triple pirouette at the end, with the consistency of a veteran.

On the pommel horse, the young promise Diogo Soares, with a slightly simpler series, showed his versatility and won the silver medal with 12.633.

This Sunday, Flamengo will go in search of more medals on the last day of finals in the capital of Rio Grande do Sul.
