Flamengo competes in the Brazilian Gymnastics Championship to maintain national dominance
The club has 19 titles and is going full force into another competition in São Paulo.

Brazil's premier artistic gymnastics competition is about to begin. Next weekend (June 22-24), the sport's top teams will gather at the Adib Moysés Dib gymnasium in São Bernardo do Campo, São Paulo, for the competition that boasts Flamengo as its greatest champion. With 19 titles, the "Mais Querido" (Most Beloved) team is well ahead of Cegin, in second place, with six.
For this edition, Flamengo will be represented by its main squad, consisting of Flavia Saraiva, Lorrane Oliveira, Isabelle Retamiro, Luisa Kirchmayer, Jade Barbosa, Beatriz Simões, and Maria Julia Marques, under the command of Ângelo Sabino. The coach recognizes Flamengo's favoritism and welcomes this situation.
"Flamengo always enters the competition as the favorite, but that's a good thing. I think it's great to enter the competition like this; it's enjoyable. For the girls too. It's a good burden for Flamengo," said Ângelo, who also explained how the athletes who will represent the club were selected.
"The competition is a team competition, with six girls participating, and the team has already been determined. On the second day, only three will compete on each apparatus, and each team will be selected based on training. It depends on who has the strongest apparatus and the best chance of success. Those who will perform on the apparatus will have their scores on the team, so we can't make mistakes."
The team's most experienced athlete, having played for Flamengo since she was four, Jade Barbosa heads into another Brazilian Championship with the same enthusiasm as ever, ready to lead the team. For the gymnast, each tournament is different, but representing the club is the most important thing.
"The Brazilian Championship is the most important competition for the club. We train constantly for it. It's been many years, and it's great to be back on track. We have a very strong gymnastics team, which is why we've won so many titles. The best thing is not just winning, but winning as a Flamengo fan," Jade said.
