Flamengo's artistic gymnastics team had a glorious morning at Arena Carioca 3, in the Barra Olympic Park, where the State Championship for the sport was held, organized by the Rio de Janeiro Artistic Gymnastics Federation.
Led by Olympians Rebeca Andrade, Flávia Saraiva, and Lorrane Oliveira, the adult team won the state title. Gymnast Maria Heloísa Moreno, just 14, was the best on all apparatuses and won the individual all-around title. "Mais Querido" also won the children's category.
In the apparatus competition, Olympic champion Rebeca was the best on the parallel bars, with a score of 14,60. On the balance beam, the little Hellen Vitória, beat the favorites and took the gold medal with a score of 13,20. On the floor, Lorrane Oliveira shone and took the title (13,10). On the vault, Luisa Gomes, was the winner with 13,00.
"I'm very happy with our performance today. I'm returning to competition after an injury, and going through all the equipment well was wonderful," celebrated Lorrane.
Rebeca didn't perform on floor exercise but exuded warmth and joy while competing for Flamengo. The gymnast believes the State Championship was good training for the Brazilian Championship, which takes place next month in Bahia.
"It's always a source of pride to compete for Flamengo. We presented what we set out to do, and we're very happy. It was another training session for the Brazilian Championship," he said.
Voted the best gymnast in the competition, young Maria Heloisa Moreno was surprised by the title in the individual all-around.
"I knew I had aced all the equipment, but I didn't expect to do so well. I'm very happy. This title is very important to me and to the club," Helô added.
Vice President of Olympic Sports, Guilherme Kroll, highlighted the importance of Olympic athletes attending the competition.
"The participation of our Olympic heroes in the State Championship, defending Flamengo's colors, demonstrates their commitment to the club and our work. They are undoubtedly an inspiration to the younger players just starting out. We are very proud," he concluded.
