Brazil's four greatest gymnasts remain with Flamengo. The club renewed the contracts of Flávia Saraiva, Jade Barbosa, Rebeca Andrade, and Lorrane Santos. With the Tokyo 2020 project in mind, the club retained the four key players from the Brazilian National Team and also to strengthen its domestic sport. The contracts are valid for two years, promising a strong team for national and international championships. In October, the athletes will compete at the World Championships in Stuttgart, Germany, for a team spot in Tokyo. And throughout the year, other competitions will determine who will advance to the Olympics in the individual classification. 

The most experienced of the athletes, Jade Barbosa, has been with the club since 1997 and continues her career, ensuring peace of mind to continue training for Tokyo and other international competitions. The gymnast also highlighted Flamengo's support for the team, maintaining a reality different from what is seen in the rest of the country. 

"I've been at Flamengo since 1997. I think it's a lifetime. We've built a family here. We've had good times and bad, all kinds of emotions. I think, for an Olympic athlete, it's great and gives peace of mind for Tokyo. Flamengo has always invested in Olympic sports, and gymnastics has always had this desire to win the Olympics and the World Championships, to achieve international results. I'm a privileged athlete, based on what we hear. We live in a different reality, and I'm happy about that. I don't know what it will be like after 2020, but we'll see. The focus is to keep as many girls on the team as possible and continue this cycle, as now a new generation is coming," said Jade. gold medal at the Pan American Games in Rio in 2007 and winner of several titles with Flamengo. 

Flavia Saraiva is also completing another Olympic cycle at Gávea. Having joined the club since 2016, Flavinha celebrated another renewal and now has her sights set on the Individual All-Around World Cup in Germany in March, where she will attempt to qualify for Tokyo. 

"I'm very happy. I joined before Rio 2016, and now, renewing for another year, and for another two years, is very gratifying. In two weeks we have the competition in Germany, then there's the Brazilian Championships, the Pan American Games, and the World Championships," said the bronze medalist at the Toronto Pan American Games and one of the 10 best gymnasts in the world in 2018. 

Lorrane dos Santos and Rebeca Andrade round out the team of gymnastics renewals. Lorrane, a product of the club's youth academy, spent four years away, returning in 2017. The gymnast celebrates the agreement with her childhood club and also appreciates the peace of mind the renewal provides for her work. 

"For me, it's an honor to have a contract with two more years. It's always been my favorite club. Unfortunately, I had to be away for a while, but now I'm here, with two years guaranteed. I'm very happy. Having a guaranteed club until next year is great, especially with the Olympics coming up. Leaving and looking for a new place would be very complicated," he said. 

Rebeca echoes this sentiment, also feeling relieved to be able to focus solely on gymnastics from now on. The four-time World Cup gold medalist also emphasizes the fact that she knows everyone at the club, which makes her feel at home when she dons the Flamengo jersey.

"It's really good. I've been here for a long time. Everyone knows me and treats me really well. I really enjoy being at Flamengo. If I had to leave, I would change everything. It's one less problem in my head and having this security is very good", he concluded. 

The artistic gymnastics teams of Clube de Regatas do Flamengo rely on resources from their sponsors – AmBev, Rede D'or, and Estácio – via the Federal Incentive Law/Ministry of Sports (IR), in addition to support from the Brazilian Committee of Clubs (CBC) resulting from the decentralization of resources originating from the Pelé Law.
