A week after renewing the contracts of three of its biggest artistic gymnastics stars, Flamengo also signed Jade Barbosa for another season. The club will have the core of the Brazilian national team permanently for at least another year. Flavia Saraiva has already qualified for the Tokyo Olympics, while Lorrane dos Santos, Rebeca Andrade, and Jade Barbosa are still fighting for a spot.

At 29, Jade Barbosa is the most experienced of the athletes. The gymnast has been with the club since 1997. She highlighted Flamengo's support for the team, maintaining a different reality than that seen in the rest of the country.

"I've been at Flamengo since 1997. I think it's a lifetime. We're one big family. We have good times and bad, all kinds of emotions. I think, for an Olympic athlete, it's very good and gives you peace of mind to compete. Flamengo has always invested in Olympic sports, and gymnastics has always had this desire to win the Olympics and the World Championships, to achieve international results. I'm a privileged athlete, based on what we hear. We live a different reality, and I'm happy about that. I don't know what it will be like after 2020, but we'll see. The focus is to keep as many girls on the team as possible and continue this cycle, as now a new generation is coming," said Jade, gold medalist at the 2007 Pan American Games in Rio and winner of several titles with Flamengo.

Jade, like Rebeca Andrade and Lorrane dos Santos, will compete in the Pan American Games in the sport in May in the United States. This competition will determine the other athlete who will represent Brazil at the Olympics.

"Anything can happen. We're all working toward a job," she concluded.

Mais Querido's Vice President of Olympic Sports, Guilherme Kroll, commented on the renewals.

"Flamengo's artistic gymnastics is intertwined with artistic gymnastics in Brazil. We are a major source of talent for the sport. Flamengo has become a self-sustaining club with the projects we support. We will strive for more podiums and more medals with great budgetary responsibility," the director assured.

 
The artistic gymnastics teams of Clube de Regatas do Flamengo rely on resources from their sponsors – AmBev, Rede D'or, IRB Brasil RE, CSN, Brasil Plural, EY – via the Federal Incentive Law/Ministry of Sports (IR), in addition to support from the Brazilian Committee of Clubs (CBC) resulting from the decentralization of resources originating from the Pelé Law.
