Sixteen-year-old athlete Flávia Saraiva is the newest addition to the red-and-black artistic gymnastics team. After months of negotiations, the diminutive medalist from the 2015 Pan American Games in Toronto and the 2014 Youth Olympic Games arrives at Mais Querido to bolster the squad, which already boasts heavyweights such as Jade Barbosa, Rebeca Andrade, Julie Kim, Letícia Costa, Milena Theodoro, Maria Cecília Cruz, Thauany Araújo, and Isabelle Cristina. The gymnast's contract runs until December 31, 2016.
In February, the 16-year-old won two gold medals at the Baku World Cup, as well as a bronze medal on the parallel bars. In 2014, at just 14, the new red-and-black star surprised everyone with the gold medal on the floor exercise and silver in the individual all-around at the World Youth Games.
Last weekend (19th and 20th), Flavinha was with her teammates Jade and Rebeca in Italy, to the dispute for the Trofeo Città di Jesolo. Straight from the trip, the new red-black team sent a statement to Flamengo extolling their happiness at being in a new home.
"I think everything will work out. What I know is that I'll do my best. I'll train hard to help maintain Flamengo's history in artistic gymnastics. I'm happy!" declared Flávia.
The gymnast's official presentation will take place this Tuesday (22), at the Cláudio Coutinho Gymnasium, the club's social headquarters, at 17 pm. Flávia will be received by the club's board of directors, her training partners, as well as Flamengo's president, Eduardo Bandeira de Mello.
The gymnastics teams of Clube de Regatas do Flamengo have support from the Brazilian Club Confederation (CBC) from the decentralization of resources originating from the Pelé Law and with resources from its sponsor – MRS Logística – via the Federal Incentive Law/Ministry of Sport (IR).
