Eight Flamengo athletes were called up by the Brazilian artistic gymnastics team to participate in the first meeting of the year, which will be held on June 1th and 25th, in Natal, Rio Grande do Norte. Diego Hypolito, Sergio Sasaki, Vitor Rosa and Petrix Barbosa, for the men, Gabriela Soares, Letícia Costa, Isabelle Cristina and Lorrana dos Santos, for the women, have been in the city of Rio Grande do Norte since last Sunday (26), accompanied by Renato Araújo, Ricardo Pereira and Keli Kitaura, coaches of the club and the national team.

The meeting will be a preparatory event for the Pan American Games in Guadalajara, to be held in Mexico in October, and for the World Championships, a pre-Olympic tournament, to be held in Japan that same month. The national teams of Austria, Spain, France, Mexico, Puerto Rico, and Venezuela will be present in Natal.

Despite the strong competition, Gabriela Soares, who placed third in the individual all-around at the Brazilian Artistic Gymnastics Trophy, held in May in Brasília, is optimistic about the international competition.

"I believe in the possibility of winning an individual medal in Natal. I think the team has a good chance too. I'm training well, I just have to get it right when it's time for the competition. I try not to think about the medal. I just want to compete well and get everything right. Winning is a consequence," he said confidently.

Jade Barbosa and Daniele Hypolito were also called up, but they won't compete due to injuries. The gymnasts hope, however, to be fully recovered for the Brazilian Championships, which will be held from July 28th to 31st in São Paulo.
