After having four athletes on the women's artistic gymnastics team at the 2016 Rio Olympics, the Red-Black team may have the chance to once again have its colors represented on the stage at a major international sporting event: the South American Youth Games. Josué Heliodoro and Guilherme Matias, members of the Mais Querido's men's youth artistic gymnastics team, will travel to São Bernardo do Campo this coming June to participate in a tryout for the team that will represent the country in the competition.
The Flamengo boys, accompanied by their coach Roberto Nassar, will compete for one of the five spots opened by the CBG (Brazilian Gymnastics Confederation). The tryouts, which will simulate a real competition, will take place from June 22nd to 24th and will be led by Marcos Goto, technical coordinator of the Brazilian Artistic Gymnastics Teams. The South American Youth Games are a preparatory tournament for the Youth Olympic Games and have been held since 2013.
The artistic gymnastics teams of Clube de Regatas do Flamengo receive funding from their sponsors – AmBev, Rede D'or, IRB Brasil RE, CSN, Brasil Plural, and EY – via the Federal Incentive Law/Ministry of Sports (IR), as well as support from the Brazilian Committee of Clubs (CBC) resulting from the decentralization of resources from the Pelé Law. The Anjo da Guarda Rubro-Negro Project, a tax transfer from individuals, benefits all Olympic sports of the Most Beloved Club.
