Gymnasts in action at the Brazilian Championship
Competition will be held this weekend, in Guarulhos
By Media Relations - inJade Barbosa, Diego, and Daniele Hypolito are already in São Paulo, where they will compete in the Brazilian Artistic Gymnastics Championships on July 29th and 30th in Guarulhos. The sport's premier national competition will bring together elite athletes from across the country who will compete for medals not only in the team event (Friday), but also in the individual all-around and apparatus event (Saturday).
\Led by coach Renato Araújo, Flamengo's men's team features Diego Hypolito and Victor Rosa, as well as promising young athletes Sérgio Sasaki, winner of the 2011 Brazil Trophy and gold medal on vault and silver medal on floor exercise at the Doha World Cup in Qatar, and Petrix Barbosa, gold medal on horizontal bar and silver medal in the all-around at the Natal International Meeting. Marcos Pedro and Daniel Santos round out the Flamengo team. Victor Rosa and Sérgio Sasaki, injured, are doubtful for the competition, but the team remains confident in achieving strong results for the Gávea club.
\"Diego and I are very confident about the individual all-around. Without Sasaki and Victor, our chances of a team medal are greatly diminished, but we hope to bring the best possible result for Flamengo," said Petrix.
\Jade Barbosa and Daniele Hypolito will be accompanied by Gabriela Soares, Lorrane dos Santos, Isabele Cristina, and Letícia da Costa, under the guidance of women's team coach Ricardo Pereira. They have a strong chance of winning medals over the two days of competition. Gabriela Soares, who won silver on the floor in Natal, believes in the team's potential.
\"If we all do what we're training for, especially Jade, it's almost impossible not to get on the podium," he said confidently.
