Red and black gymnasts in action at the Guadalajara Pre-Pan Championships

Unable to count on its full strength, Flamengo will be represented by Daniele Hypolito and Gabriela Soares

Two Flamengo fans will have an even greater responsibility as they will be the only Flamengo representatives at the Pre-Pan Games in Guadalajara, Mexico. The competition, which will be held from September 2nd to 5th, is a qualifier for the 2011 Pan American Games.

Without its full strength, Flamengo had two athletes called up to represent it on the Brazilian national team: Daniele Hypolito and Gabriela Soares (pictured with gymnast Adrian Gomes). Both are confirmed for all apparatus (floor, vault, bars, and beam), and will be joined by Flamengo and Brazilian national team coaches Ricardo Pereira and Renato Araújo.

"This period of adaptation is very important for the team. In our free time, we take the opportunity to visit some places and spend time on Twitter," said Daniele.

Diego Hypolito announced his withdrawal from the national team that traveled to Guadalajara after undergoing an MRI that detected an injury to his left foot. Victor Rosa was also left out of the squad after injuring his shoulder at the Brazilian Championships. The same happened to promising young athlete Letícia Costa, who also suffered an injury.

"The important thing is that we qualify for the Pan American Games. It's difficult to say, since I didn't travel with the team. Dani has a real chance of winning medals, but Gabriela is still very raw, despite having an excellent vault. It will be good for her to gain experience," said coach Viviane Cardoso.
