Gymnasts perform at a meeting in Gávea
Event marks the return of the top team to Gávea after the 2012 fire

This Saturday morning (June 14.06), the Rubro-Negro Artistic Gymnastics Meeting took place at Flamengo's headquarters in Gávea. President Eduardo Bandeira de Mello and Vice President of Olympic Sports Alexandre Póvoa were present, as well as Director Marcelo Vido. Luisa Parente, the sport's manager, presented the event. After the men's and women's youth teams warmed up, athletes and students from the Sempre Flamengo Sports School paraded before the audience, which included the Vice Presidents of Communication, Assets, Fla-Gávea, Administration, and Legal Affairs, as well as Flamengo's General Director and Director of Communications. Also in attendance were Georgette Vidor, coordinator of the CBG; Alexander Alexandrov, coach of the Brazilian national team; Berenice Arruda, a member of the COB (Brazilian Olympic Committee); and coaches and instructors from the club. The event was historic as it represented the return of top-level Artistic Gymnastics to training in Gávea, at the Cláudio Coutinho Gymnasium, after the 2012 fire.
President Bandeira de Mello praised the work of those involved in the sport and noted that the renewal movement is a club-wide effort.
"Despite all the difficulties, we're managing to turn things around. This gym will be as beautiful as it was before when all the remaining equipment arrives, and that's what's happening with the entire club. We're working hard to renovate all the facilities with everyone's support and hard work. I thank Póvoa, Vido, and Luisa. I'm very happy to be part of this milestone for artistic gymnastics at Flamengo," he said.
VP Alexandre Póvoa also thanked those present. "This is a very happy moment. Flamengo first develops citizens and then develops athletes, and that's the club's mentality. We're clearing our name and thank the athletes who trained outside of here, but that's coming to an end. Much of the equipment here today is thanks to Georgette, whom I'm very grateful to, and we hope that by September the gym will be ready and at a high standard," he stated.
The speeches were followed by presentations by the athletes on various sporting apparatuses—floor, bars, vault, and balance beam. Flamengo's representative at the Youth Olympic Games, Rebeca Andrade, delivered a brilliant floor performance, earning a standing ovation from the audience.
Luisa Parente commented on the importance of the event: "Without a doubt, any form of tribute recognizes the work done, and this certainly encourages and motivates them even more to move forward. Furthermore, the proximity of the athletes to us gives a boost to those who stayed behind and were unable to watch and honor them at the Troféu Brasil. Therefore, it is an opportunity for everyone to be close to their idols, and we are very happy to be with the entire gymnastics family here," she said.
All athletes were honored and received a red-and-black kit as gifts from Bandeira, Póvoa and Vido.
