The red-and-black artistic gymnastics team closed the first half of the 2019 season with a very positive result, both in the adult and youth categories. Among the main achievements, the highlight was the title of the Brazilian Specialist Championship, the most important competition held in the semester.
At the Brazilian Specialist Championships, held at Arena Carioca 3 in early June, the girls from Gávea shined in their performances, winning seven medals: three gold, three silver, and one bronze. Jade Barbosa, Flávia Saraiva, Lorrane Oliveira, and Isabelle Cruz reached the finals and were instrumental in Flamengo securing the overall championship title.
A few months earlier, in March, representing the Brazilian women's national team, the red-and-blacks Jade, Flávia, and Rebeca competed in the DTB Pokal and won the competition's first team title. The event served as preparation for the World Championships.
In the youth categories, the Mais Querido gymnasts also performed well. The Rubro-Negro team won the National Youth Artistic Gymnastics Tournament in both the women's and men's categories. Roger Gomes, Cauã Rocha, and Matheus Fernandes placed first, second, and third in the men's individual all-around, respectively. In the women's competition, Maria Heloísa Moreno, in first place, Hellen Vitória Benevides in second, and Giovanna Cruz in third, completed the Rubro-Negro podium. Meanwhile, Manuela Garcia, in fourth place, also performed well individually in the tournament.
A great revelation for the red-black team in recent years, Josué Heliodoro made his debut in international competitions for the national team and was considered the second best Brazilian athlete in the Junior Team Cup, a tournament aimed at gymnasts aged between 17 and 18.
Now, the red-and-blacks continue training hard to face another edition of the Brazilian Championship, which will be held between August 13th and 18th in Praia Grande, on the coast of São Paulo. Previously, Jade Barbosa, Flávia Saraiva, and Lorrane Oliveira are eagerly awaiting a call-up to the Brazilian team that will compete in the Pan American Games in Lima, Peru, between July 26th and August 11th.
The artistic gymnastics teams of Clube de Regatas do Flamengo rely on resources from their sponsors – AmBev, Rede D'or, IRB Brasil RE, CSN, Brasil Plural, EY – via the Federal Incentive Law/Ministry of Sports (IR), in addition to support from the Brazilian Committee of Clubs (CBC) resulting from the decentralization of resources originating from the Pelé Law.
