Jade Barbosa and Daniele Hypolito shone in securing a spot in the women's artistic gymnastics team Olympics, held this Wednesday (January 11.01) in London. Eight countries competed for qualification, and Brazil, in fourth place behind Italy, Canada, and France, secured its place for the third consecutive time. With confident, well-executed, and highly challenging performances, the red-and-blacks were fundamental to the Brazilian team's achievement and even secured a place in the finals. Both gymnasts competed on all four apparatuses and performed exceptionally well. Daniele Hypolito showed she's in excellent shape and ready to compete in her fourth Olympics. Scoring 55.365 (vault: 14.266; parallel bar: 13.333; beam: 13.866; and floor: 13.900), she was the best Brazilian, eighth in the entire competition, in the Individual All-Around and earned a spot in the floor final. Jade Barbosa also performed very well, finishing her performance with a 53.456 (vault: 14.766; parallel bar: 13.133; beam: 11.866; and floor: 13.691). After finishing fourth at the World Championships in Japan in October and missing the Pan American Games in Guadalajara due to a sprained left foot, the gymnast came back strong and qualified first for the vault final, with a strong chance of a medal. Gávea gymnasts Gabriela Soares and Priscila Cobello also went to England, but did not compete.

On Tuesday (January 10.01), the men's team, without Diego Hypolito and Victor Rosa, who were injured, secured a spot in the Games in the individual all-around competition. The decision on who will travel to London is up to the Brazilian Gymnastics Confederation, as the victory belongs to the country and not to an individual athlete. Team coordinator Leonardo Finco, however, pointed out that Sérgio Sasaki is the clear favorite for the position, as he was the ninth-best gymnast in the Pre-Olympics and the best Brazilian in both Tokyo and London.

"It's almost certain that we'll take Sasaki. It's only fair, since he performed well," he said.

The great Flamengo promise totaled 86.898, being 14.366 on the floor, 14.100 on the horse, 14.200 on the rings, 15.866 on the vault, 14.300 on the parallel bars and 14.066 on the horizontal bar. Petrix Barbosa, the other Flamengo athlete in the competition, scored 84.132, being the second best of the green and yellow team, which finished in sixth place overall.

In addition to the athletes, coaches Viviane Cardoso, Ricardo Pereira and Renato Araújo represented Rubro-Negro at the North Greenwich Arena.
