Lucas Costa de Souza is back in the red-black Artistic Gymnastics squad
At just four years old, the athlete was already part of the Mais Querido children's team

Lucas "Mosquito" Costa de Souza joined Flamengo when he was just four years old. At the club, he took his first steps in artistic gymnastics and fell in love with the sport. At the end of 2018, after stints with other teams and the Brazilian national team, the athlete decided to return to his beloved club to strengthen the main gymnastics squad and promises to bring much joy to the Flamengo Nation.While still very young, Mosquito, as he's known, joined the Flamengo academy and, within just a few months, was already training with the Flamengo youth team. The gymnast remained at Gávea until he turned 13, then transferred to Minas Tênis Clube. He became Brazilian champion in the floor, rings, and uneven bars events, South American team champion, and Pan American runner-up.
Now, at 17 years old, Lucas is very happy to return home and spoke to the Official Website about this special moment he is experiencing.
"I'm facing this return to the club with great joy and satisfaction, where I began my career and where I feel at home. As an athlete and a Flamengo fan, I want to repay with many achievements all the affection with which everyone welcomed me. I will dedicate myself to the fullest with my teammates and coaches so that we can achieve excellent results and take Flamengo to higher levels," said the Flamengo fan.
"This year, I'll be part of the adult team and I hope to repeat my best seasons, which were in the children's and youth teams. I want to be at my best to represent Flamengo in the best way possible," he concluded.
Lucas Mosquito's first competition for the Mais Querido adult team will be the Brazilian Specialist Championship, scheduled to take place in June, with the date and location yet to be defined.
The artistic gymnastics teams of Clube de Regatas do Flamengo rely on resources from their sponsors – AmBev, Rede D'or, and Estácio – via the Federal Incentive Law/Ministry of Sports (IR), in addition to support from the Brazilian Committee of Clubs (CBC) resulting from the decentralization of resources originating from the Pelé Law.
