Last Friday (17) Flamengo gymnast Maria Cecília Oliveira underwent surgery on her left shoulder in São Paulo due to a ruptured rotator cuff. The procedure repaired the supraspinatus and biceps tenodesis and her case is being closely monitored by the Brazilian Olympic Committee (COB) doctor, Dr. Rodrigo Sasson. The gymnast is expected to return to Rio de Janeiro next week, after a period of rest, when she will begin physiotherapy for analgesia at CUIDAR, with COB physiotherapists.
In a social media post, Maria Cecília reassured her friends and fans. "Thank God everything went well. Now I just have to wait for my recovery and I'll be back to my routine soon," Ceci wrote.
Maria Cecília is expected to join Flávia Saraiva, Jade Barbosa, and Rebeca Andrade, who have officially confirmed their stay at Mais Querido for another year, between four and six months. They will be able to continue their training routines at the Cláudio Coutinho Gymnasium, which recently received new equipment through a grant from the Club Olympic Committee (CBC). The club's main competition in 2017 is the Brazilian Adult Championship, which will take place in the second half of the year.
