Martine Vik, a member of Flamengo's youth team, has been called up to the Norwegian artistic gymnastics team. Having played for the club since 2016, the 11-year-old gymnast moved to Brazil with her family to accompany her father, who works for a Norwegian company with a branch in Rio de Janeiro. 

"When we moved to Rio, we received help from Brazilian coworkers; we wanted to find the best gymnastics club in the city. They recommended Flamengo as the best and most professional," says Line Vik, the athlete's mother.

Martine began practicing the sport in her home country when she was just two years old. At seven, she gained professional status, competing in regional and national competitions. When she joined Flamengo, she joined the children's team, under coach Daniela Antunes. During her vacation, when she returns to Norway, the gymnast maintains her training routine there, and during this year's break, she received the news that she had been called up to the national team. According to Line, the "Mais Querido" (Flamengo's Favorite) was instrumental in this achievement.

"We are very grateful to Flamengo for the way they treated Martine, in every possible way. We know she can thank the club for the chance to be part of the national team. Flamengo has excellent coaches and a great structure. We hope other foreigners have the same opportunity to have this experience," says her mother.

The athlete will become a full member of the Norwegian national team in July, when the family moves back to the country.
