With half of Flamengo's team of athletes, the Brazilian Women's Artistic Gymnastics Team was one of the highlights of the traditional Trofeo Città di Jesolo, in Italy. In the competition, which concluded this Sunday (20), the Brazilians won a silver medal as a team and competed in several apparatus finals. Participation in the competition was very positive, on the eve of the Olympic Games test event in April.
Brazil's team silver came with 223,700 points. This put the country ahead of Italy (222,400) and France (221,150). The gold medalists were the gymnasts from the United States, the current world champions, with 237,350 points.
In the individual all-around, Flávia Saraiva, who will be presented by Flamengo this Tuesday (22), in Gávea, was the fourth best placed, with 58,400. "Flávia competed very well and had her best total in the individual to date. In addition, she qualified for the finals of the four apparatus, but we chose not to put her in all of them in the final, since our main objective is the test event", explained coach Alexandre Carvalho.
In the apparatus finals, Flávia finished fifth on the balance beam with a 14,400 and fourth on the floor with a 14,050. On the uneven bars, Jade Barbosa finished sixth with a 13,150, while Rebeca Andrade, in her first challenge after an injury that kept her out of competition for eight months, finished eighth with a 12,900.
From Italy, Rebeca headed to Doha, Qatar, for a World Cup stage this weekend. The women's competition will also feature fellow Flamengo player Thauany Araújo, as well as Flamengo and Brazil coach Keli Kitaura.
The gymnastics teams of Clube de Regatas do Flamengo have support from the Brazilian Club Confederation (CBC) from the decentralization of resources originating from the Pelé Law and with resources from its sponsor – MRS Logística – via the Federal Incentive Law/Ministry of Sport (IR).
