This Friday (10), four Olympic sports resumed activities in Gávea. Senior athletes from artistic gymnastics, swimming, water polo and artistic swimming joined those from rowing, the first sport to return. The return to training is gradual and follows a safety protocol developed by CUIDAR, as well as the restructuring plan of the Rio de Janeiro city government. 

All Flamengo players involved were previously tested for the novel coronavirus, which causes COVID-19. A total of 176 tests were performed on athletes and professionals. Among the safety measures, masks are mandatory, except during physical activity. Divided into groups, the athletes are allowed to train for only one hour.

Among the red-and-blacks who returned this Friday, the artistic gymnastics athletes held one of the first training sessions of the day. Jade Barbosa, a club veteran, spoke about the group's return. 

"We're very happy about this return. The weightlifting team was very eager for this to happen as soon as possible. But we were really concerned about everyone's health, and we couldn't return if we couldn't maintain safety protocols," commented Jade. "This first training experience was fun because in gymnastics, we usually work very closely together, we really need the coaches, and at this first stage, we can't; we have to maintain a distance between us all. It's strange, but necessary."

The resumption of activities for the red-and-black judo team is currently under evaluation. The basketball and volleyball teams have not yet started the new season.
