With a record score on the floor exercise, gymnast Diego Hypolito was crowned Brazilian artistic gymnastics champion this Friday in Vitória, Espírito Santo, in the individual all-around category (combined score of all six apparatuses). The Clube de Regatas do Flamengo athlete scored 16,100 points on his specialty apparatus. The runner-up in the all-around was his teammate Victor Rosa (individual all-around scores below).

"I did one of the best floor exercises of my career, with a starting score of 16,80. I was very happy with this performance and hope to improve it even further, aiming for the world championships in October in the Netherlands. I'd like to take this opportunity to dedicate this medal in advance to all the fathers in Brazil, especially the red-blacks, who celebrate their day on Sunday," said Diego, who will fight for more medals in the apparatus competition this Saturday (07.08).

In addition to winning the gold medal in the individual all-around, Diego also helped the red-and-black team win bronze in the competition. The overall team champion was São Caetano, and Brasil Futebol Clube (from Santos) came in second.
