Official Note – Lorenna Antunes

By - in
Athlete Lorenna Antunes suffered a complete rupture of the anterior cruciate ligament, the posterior horn of the lateral and medial menisci in her left knee, and a bone contusion in the lateral condyle of her femur on May 26th, during a training session with the red-and-black team at the Claudio Coutinho Gymnasium in Gávea. The gymnast will undergo video arthroscopy for complete rehabilitation of her knee stability, requiring reconstruction of the anterior cruciate ligament and repair of associated meniscal injuries. The surgery will be performed this Wednesday, July 18th, by Dr. Rodrigo Sasson at Hospital Vitória, in Americas Medical City.

Lorenna will undergo physical recovery and physiotherapy at the Center for Identification and Development of Performance Athletes (CUIDAR) at Clube de Regatas do Flamengo and it is estimated that sporting activities will be able to resume after approximately six to eight months.

The artistic gymnastics teams of Clube de Regatas do Flamengo rely on resources from their sponsors – AmBev, Rede D'or, IRB Brasil RE, CSN, Brasil Plural, EY – via the Federal Incentive Law/Ministry of Sports (IR), in addition to support from the Brazilian Committee of Clubs (CBC) resulting from the decentralization of resources originating from the Pelé Law.
