By Communication - Flamengo - inOn Friday night (7), athlete Rebeca Andrade felt pain in her right knee during her floor performance at the Brazilian Artistic Gymnastics Specialist Championship. Tests carried out on Friday revealed that the gymnast suffered an injury to the anterior cruciate ligament in her right knee. Rebeca will have to undergo surgery and, according to doctors, the estimated recovery time is approximately six to eight months.
"After suffering the sprain, she underwent clinical tests and an MRI, which revealed an anterior cruciate ligament injury. She will require surgery, and the coaching staff, along with the medical team, are planning her return to training in about six months and competition in about eight," said Rodrigo Sasson, a physician for the Brazilian Olympic Committee.
"I was very sad that I couldn't finish the competition, as I was so happy to be competing again at the Brazilian Championships. I was very upset, especially because I looked great—healthy, light, lean, strong, and beautiful during my performance. I was able to see some pictures, but now I have to think positively; I can't focus on what happened. I want to thank Flamengo and my team for all their support, which gives me so much strength to come back once again. I'm grateful to the coaches who were there, supporting me as always. We'll get through this; I still have a long way to go, and I hope to shine brightly in the world of gymnastics," said Rebeca.
