A first-ever medal for Brazil in Japan! On Thursday morning (29), Brazil's Rebeca Andrade made history by winning silver in the women's artistic gymnastics individual all-around at the Olympics. With this feat, the 22-year-old athlete became the first Brazilian woman to win a medal in artistic gymnastics at the Olympic Games.

With 57,298 points, Rebeca was behind only American Sunisa Lee, who scored 57,433 points. The bronze medal went to Russian Angelina Melnikova, with 57,199 points.

To the tune of "Baile de Favela," Rebeca delivered a near-perfect performance, save for a misstep on the floor. Nothing to diminish the brilliance of the red-and-black player, who, on the other side of the world, filled Brazilians with pride with a first-ever medal for the country.

"This medal isn't just mine, it's everyone's. Everyone knows my journey, what I've been through. If I hadn't had each of these people in my life, this wouldn't have happened. I'm sure of that. I'm very grateful to everyone. I think that even if I hadn't won the medal, I would have made history, precisely because of the process I took to get here. Don't give up, believe in your dream, and stay strong. We will always face difficulties, but we have to be strong enough to get through each day. I had wonderful people who helped me through this process, and I hope you have incredible people to help you reach the top like I did. I'm very grateful. I send all my love to all the gymnasts who have passed through here, who are happy with my success. I'm truly grateful," declared the red-and-black, quite emotional.

Rebeca Andrade still has a chance of winning two more medals at the Tokyo Olympics, in the vault finals, next Sunday (1), and on the floor, on Monday (2).
