Brazilian gymnast Rebeca Andrade, just 14 years old, won five medals at the South American Junior Championships (one category below the Adult category) held in Colombia last weekend. She won three gold medals, one silver medal, and one bronze medal.

Rebeca won the individual vault and parallel bars events. On the balance beam, she took silver, but a mistake on the floor exercise ruined her chance at the individual all-around title, and she ended up taking bronze. Her third gold came in the team competition, with Brazil finishing ahead of Argentina and Colombia.

"Rebeca has been competing very well for a long time. Despite having failed on the floor and parallel bars, she performed well and did what she could. It's normal for athletes to make mistakes, but on the second day, in the finals, she managed to overcome herself," said Keli Kitaura, the gymnast's coach at Flamengo, who was in Colombia to lead the Brazilian athletes.
