The artistic gymnastics test event once again demonstrated Flamengo's strength and representation in the sport in the country. In the apparatus finals on Monday (18), three more medals came from the red-black team for the Brazilian team. While Rebeca Andrade took bronze on the uneven bars, Flávia Saraiva won silver on the balance beam and gold on the floor exercise.
Rebeca opened the competition on the uneven bars, scoring 14,433 points to win the bronze medal. She trailed only Germany's Elisabeth Seitz, with 15,133, and Sophie Scheder, with 15,033. With consistent performances in both qualifying and the final, the gymnast won two medals on the uneven bars in less than a month—at the World Cup in Doha, Qatar, she took silver.
"I'm proud of myself because I did my best, and I know I can make it even harder in this series. Here at the test event, I was able to help my team win an Olympic spot, and today I have another medal. I'm very satisfied," said the athlete, who is only 16 years old, 13 of which have been dedicated to gymnastics.
On the balance beam, it was the remarkable little Flávia Saraiva who wowed the crowd and the referees. In a confident performance, the gymnast took silver with 14,733 points. On the same apparatus, Flamengo's Jade Barbosa finished eighth with 12,066 points.
To top it off with a gold medal, Flavinha performed on the floor. Last to perform on the apparatus, Flavinha wowed the crowd with her new routine, earning 14,400 points and taking first place on the podium. "I can already imagine myself here at the Olympics, in this gymnasium, which is wonderful and where I felt so good. Yesterday I was so happy with our qualification, that today I came to shine and be happy. We're training really hard, similar to the Americans, and I hope to be like them," declared Flávia.
In addition to Flavinha, Rebeca and Jade, Flamengo also had athlete Milena Theodoro as a reserve on the Brazilian team in the competition.
The gymnastics teams of Clube de Regatas do Flamengo have support from the Brazilian Club Confederation (CBC) from the decentralization of resources originating from the Pelé Law and with resources from its sponsor – MRS Logística – via the Federal Incentive Law/Ministry of Sport (IR).
