Seeking further impressive results in 2020, Flamengo's men's artistic gymnastics athletes continue training hard for the competitions they will face throughout the season. For the second consecutive year, Flamengo will have a full adult team in the Brazilian Championship, one of their main goals at the national level.

Roberto Nassar, coach of the men's team, outlined the season and spoke about expectations for each category, from Pre-Kids to Adults.

"We expect at least one athlete from the Pre-Kids team to compete for a national individual title. In the Juniors category, we're still at an early stage, which makes it difficult to reach the podium. In the Juniors category, we have two very experienced gymnasts, as well as two very young boys who have moved up a category, making the team well-rounded. The Brazilian Championships are in October, and we expect to finish among the top four," the coach continued.

"Matheus Fernandes, a junior gymnast, has a great chance of making the Brazilian National Team in that category. As for the adult Josué Heliodoro, even leaving the junior category and moving to the senior category, he managed to stay on the Brazilian team, which is a very difficult feat for a 17- or 18-year-old athlete. Josué was just called up to participate in the Berlin Cup, where he will be the first Brazilian reserve. So, our focus this year is to participate in the national competition with a full team, making it the second consecutive year after not competing in nine years," he concluded.

The Brazilian Men's Artistic Gymnastics Championship for Children to Adults will be held between November 11th and 15th, with no location yet defined.


The artistic gymnastics teams of Clube de Regatas do Flamengo rely on resources from their sponsors – AmBev, Rede D'or, IRB Brasil RE, CSN, Brasil Plural, EY – via the Federal Incentive Law/Ministry of Sports (IR), in addition to support from the Brazilian Committee of Clubs (CBC) resulting from the decentralization of resources originating from the Pelé Law.
