The red-and-black athletes from the Mirim and Pre-Infantil categories enter the scene this weekend (25th and 26th) for the 1st Stage of the State Artistic Gymnastics Tournament. The competition will be held at Arena Carioca 3, in the Olympic Park of Barra da Tijuca-RJ.
In the competition, Flamengo will only feature gymnasts from its youth team. Meanwhile, the adult team athletes continue preparing for the Brazilian Specialist Championship in June. In the Junior category, nine gymnasts will represent the "Mais Querido" in the tournament: Ana Beatriz Afonso, Amélia Fleming, Ana Clara Leopoldino, Maria Clara Carvalho, Felipa Salles, Giovana Trovejani, Sofia Toscano, Manuela Águas, and Beatriz Bastos. In the Pre-Kids category, Helena Locoselli will be seeking medals for the Rubro-Negro.
"It's a very interesting tournament for the youth teams of the red-and-black gymnastics team. All the Junior athletes, who haven't yet competed in the Brazilian Championship, are registered. Since there are few championships here in Rio de Janeiro in this category, it's great for them to participate in this type of competition because it's an opportunity to test the series they'll compete in at the national tournament in June, along with the Brazilian Specialist Championship," analyzed Ângelo Sabino, coach of the Mais Querido team, who continued.
"The most important thing at these ages isn't the results; the most important thing is the athletes' development with a well-developed foundation. This way, when they reach the senior team, they'll be well prepared for a possible call-up to the Brazilian national team and to compete in high-level competitions," the coach concluded.
The Brazilian Specialist Championship will take place between June 5th and 9th at Arena Carioca 3. It is worth noting that, at a national level, it will be the most important competition of the semester.
The artistic gymnastics teams of Clube de Regatas do Flamengo rely on resources from their sponsors – AmBev, Rede D'or, IRB Brasil RE, CSN, Brasil Plural, EY – via the Federal Incentive Law/Ministry of Sports (IR), in addition to support from the Brazilian Committee of Clubs (CBC) resulting from the decentralization of resources originating from the Pelé Law.
