Rubro-Negras debut at the Gymnastics World Championships in search of an Olympic spot
Team with Jade Barbosa, Letícia Costa and Thauany Araújo participates in the competition which also has coach Keli Kitaura

The Artistic Gymnastics World Championships began this Friday (October 23.10) in Glasgow, Scotland. The pre-Olympic competition is worth a direct spot to the Rio 2016 Olympic Games and features four Brazilian representatives: athletes Jade Barbosa, Letícia Costa and Thauany Araújo, and coach Keli Kitaura. If Brazil finishes in the top eight in the team competition, they will be guaranteed a spot in the Olympics.
The Brazilian National Team qualifiers began at 13:30 p.m. (Brasília time) today. The women's finals begin on Tuesday (October 27.10), broadcast on SporTV. Jade Barbosa will compete on all apparatus, Thauany Araújo will compete on vault, uneven bars and beam, and Letícia Costa will compete on floor exercise.
The countries that place ninth through 16th will compete in the test event in April. Jade Barbosa is banking on the national team's good preparation to secure a spot.
"We did everything we could this year. Everyone gave it their all, and now it's time to get it right, show what we've been working on. We've had good evaluations and are confident. Of course, a Pre-Olympic World Championship causes a lot of anxiety, but we're ready. Tomorrow, the important thing is to show what we've trained for. We have to do what we know and not make mistakes. Since some of the girls are competing at a World Championship for the first time, those of us who have competed before are trying to help and unite even more. That's definitely a big factor. I hope they feel confident in us, just as I felt in the more experienced girls when I started," she said.
