Flamengo athletes win five gold medals at the South American Games

When it comes to Olympic gymnastics, Flamengo's name is always among the best. And it's no different at the 2010 South American Games, held in Medellín, Colombia. The athletes from Gávea won five gold medals, with Diego Hypolito taking home two and innovating with the "Nemov" acrobatic move. His sister, fellow Flamengo fan Daniele Hypolito, competed in the World Cup in Doha, Qatar, and placed among the top eight on the floor and parallel bars.
Last Tuesday (23.03), Diego Hypolito led Brazil in the team competition, alongside fellow red-black Victor Rosa, as well as Arthur Zanetti, Francisco Barreto, Mosiah Rodrigues and Sérgio Sasaki. Result: first place, with 343.500 points, leaving behind the home team, Colombia, second place, with 340.350, and Argentina, third, with 327.850 points. Furthermore, on the same day, the gymnast secured first place on the floor, his specialty.
On Wednesday (24.03), Diego Hypolito took home another gold medal. In the individual floor exercise, the gymnast had a final score of 15.825 and was the best. Thus, he secured another victory for the Rubro-negro and for Brazil. Chilean Enrique Tomas Sepulvueda (15.400) was second place and the bronze medal went to another Brazilian, Victor Rosa, who received a score of 14.775 from the judges.
Following Hypolito's achievements, two other Flamengo players also shone. Flamengo athletes Ana Cláudia Silva and Leticia Costa helped Brazil win another gold medal, this time in the women's team competition. Together with Gávea athletes Ethiene Franco, Bruna Leal, Priscila Cobello, and Anna Cardoso, they totaled 209.300 points and secured first place.
Second place went, once again, to Colombia (201.350) and Venezuela (201) secured third place.
"This result is very important for our group. It's still the first competition of the year and we have a lot of room for improvement throughout the season. We're very happy with this result," said Ana Cláudia Silva.
Daniele Hypolito achieves good result at the Doha World Cup
In her return to competition after a year of injury, Daniele Hypolito achieved two impressive results for Brazilian Olympic gymnastics. The Flamengo athlete placed seventh in the parallel bars (12.720 points) and finished seventh in the floor final.
As the only representative of the Brazilian women's team in the competition, Daniele felt it was very important to have achieved good results upon her return.
"The outcome of my participation in this World Cup was positive. I think I fulfilled my role well by competing in two apparatus finals and I believe I can improve even more in the upcoming competitions," said Daniele.
