After surprising in London, Sergio Sasaki, an artistic gymnastics athlete from Flamengo and part of the select group that makes up the Brazilian national team, was one of the highlights of the Open Championship, held in Acapulco, Mexico, and won the bronze medal.

Sasaki finished third in the all-around - the total for all apparatus - with 87.300 points. The Brazilian was behind only Ukrainian Oleg Verniaiev (89.000) and Russian David Belyavskiy (88.900).
