On Thursday morning (November 27.11), Jade Barbosa received an illustrious visitor at the Cláudio Coutinho gymnasium, located at the Gávea social headquarters. Brazilian National Team coach Alexander Alexandrov watched the red-and-black gymnast train with coach Ricardo Pereira. Jade is recovering well from the injury she suffered after winning the Brazilian championship in August.

"It was a difficult trauma, a complicated operation. Three months later, I'm happy that Jade is already back on the machines, in addition to physical therapy and physical conditioning. I'm very happy that she's already returning to gymnastics," said Alexandrov, who also praised Ricardo, the club's and Brazil's coach. "I've been working with Ricardo for a year and a half, and even with the language difference, I'm able to show him what I want. I came today to see how his work with the girls is going, and I'm pleased with what I saw today," he said.

Nathalia Medeiros, Flamengo's physiologist and physical trainer for the Brazilian Olympic Committee (COB), assured that Jade is on the right track for a full recovery. Within a few weeks, the athlete was off crutches and is focused on growing even more.

"It was a difficult time because she had been progressing significantly; the injury happened on the eve of the World Cup. But she's very focused, training three times a day, doing physical therapy twice a day, and preparing for physical activity. Now, training alongside the girls, they help each other. The first day she came to the gym, her eyes were already shining," said Nathalia, who didn't make any predictions for Jade's return. "It all depends on each athlete's progress. She's doing very well, but we have to analyze her week by week," she concluded.

Knowing that her recovery must be complete for her return, Jade is working hard to return with a vengeance. After this year's emotional rollercoaster, when shortly after climbing the podium as Brazilian champion she discovered a serious injury, the red-and-black player is calm and optimistic about the future.

"That's the life of an athlete. Ups and downs, and everything happens so fast. I was very happy when I returned to Flamengo; I was in great shape, and then the injury happened at the Brazilian Championships. I had to undergo surgery, but now I have to wait for it to get better. I have two very important competitions next year. The Pan American Games will be essential for me to confirm my recovery and evaluate myself for the world championships. Once I get there (at the world championships), I have to put everything into it. It's the competition that will determine qualification for the Olympics, and I think we have a good chance of making it. Our girls will be 16 next year, the minimum age. I hope 2015 is the year of gymnastics," Jade concluded.
