The red-black Thauany Araújo, who represented the Women's Artistic Gymnastics Team at the World Cup in Varna, Bulgaria, did not participate in the vault finals, last Saturday (14), for which she had qualified. The gymnast felt pain in her ankle, so she did not compete.
According to Keli Kitaura, coach and head of delegation for the Brazilian National Team and Flamengo coach, the athlete felt pain yesterday during her final pass on the floor exercise. "She had a great qualifying session. Yesterday on the floor exercise, she fell and started to feel pain. This morning, the pain was severe and she couldn't warm up. It's a shame, because she had a chance at a medal," said Keli.
In the vault qualifying round, Thauany placed third, with 14,200 points (14,700 on the first vault and 13,700 on the second). Next, the Brazilian performed on the balance beam and placed 13th, with 12,650. To finish, on the floor, she was 11th, with 12,200.
The other Brazilian gymnast at the World Cup, Julie Kim Sinmon, competed for the first time after undergoing knee surgery in October. She competed only on the uneven bars and placed 11th with a score of 12,550. Coach Ricardo Pereira was also part of the delegation.
The gymnastics teams of Clube de Regatas do Flamengo have support from the Brazilian Club Confederation (CBC) from the decentralization of resources originating from the Pelé Law and with resources from its sponsor – MRS Logística – via the Federal Incentive Law/Ministry of Sport (IR).
