Almost twenty years after her last stint at the club, Georgette Vidor returned to Flamengo in January to serve as Technical Coordinator of Artistic Gymnastics. The Flamengo player, like all of the Mais Querido athletes, is at home completing the quarantine period due to the novel coronavirus pandemic, but she hasn't missed a single day of work.

From afar, but attentive to the gymnasts' every move, Georgette monitors their activities daily during social isolation. She detailed how the monitoring process works and even offered her opinion on the postponement of the Tokyo Olympics until next year.

"We monitor the athletes daily. The adult gymnasts have some daily tasks to perform, in addition to receiving twice-weekly monitoring via the app. The girls on the children's team also receive this daily monitoring, with which we try to maintain as much control as possible over the eleven gymnasts in their category. Three of them are part of a daily training group of girls selected for the Brazilian youth team. So, in addition to performing our tasks, they also perform these activities in the afternoon, with supervision from one of our coaches," explained Georgette.

The coordinator also detailed the routine of the younger gymnasts. "The younger ones in Pre-Kindergarten continue to be closely monitored with some tasks, and we're also holding virtual meetings with their parents. The goal of this monitoring is to ensure maximum control so the athletes remain motivated. Ultimately, we're doing everything we can to keep them in touch and active," the red-and-black athlete emphasized.

Regarding the postponement of the Tokyo Games, Georgette Vidor agreed with the International Olympic Committee's decision.

"I believe it was the best thing to do during this global pandemic. I also think it was very good for our gymnasts, like Jade, Rebeca, and Lorrane. They will be able to better prepare and try to secure a spot in the Individual All-Around competition, which is Brazil's only remaining qualifying opportunity. This spot was supposed to be contested through the Pan American Games, scheduled for May, but which was also postponed," he concluded.

It is worth noting that, to date, Flavia Saraiva is the confirmed red-black representative in the Individual All-Around events at the Tokyo Olympics.


The artistic gymnastics teams of Clube de Regatas do Flamengo rely on resources from their sponsors – AmBev, Rede D'or, IRB Brasil RE, CSN, Brasil Plural, EY – via the Federal Incentive Law/Ministry of Sports (IR), in addition to support from the Brazilian Committee of Clubs (CBC) resulting from the decentralization of resources originating from the Pelé Law.
