Gymnast Victor Rosa, one of the standout performers on the men's artistic gymnastics team, underwent surgery on his left arm last Friday (July 18) in Curitiba, after suffering an injury during the Vitaly Scherbo Tournament in Minsk, Belarus. The athlete was competing in the Rings event when he suffered the injury. At the time, the red-and-black athlete finished 30th in the individual all-around, with 53.400 points.
Victor was supposed to be Diego Hypólito's official backup at the Beijing Olympics. The two gymnasts train together in Gávea, under coach Renato Araújo. Training is expected to resume in October.
According to Carlos Henrique Ramos, the orthopedic surgeon who performed the surgery, the athlete should return to training after three months of treatment. The work should progress gradually until he can begin performing some specific training movements. "During the first few months, he can't strain the tendon. He can perform movements to keep the joint active, but he needs to do so with more caution."
