Aiming for the Olympics, Rubro-Negras gymnasts train in Portugal
Before the match in Rio, athletes head to a friendly in the Netherlands
By John Pedro Ribeiro* - inAfter the excellent performance of Flamengo athletes Flávia Saraiva and Rebeca Andrade at the Artistic Gymnastics World Cup in Anadia, Portugal, the other gymnasts from Mais Querido, Daniele Hypolito, Jade Barbosa, Julie Kim Sinmon and Milena Theodoro, joined the athletes' training in Europe for intensive training ahead of the Rio Olympics. The program at the High Performance Center began on Monday (25) and continues until July 6. Soon after, the group will travel to Beekbergen, in the Netherlands, for a friendly match on the 9th.
"Our preparation is proceeding as it should be in this final stretch. In the morning, the gymnasts do their routines, and in the afternoon we work more on the elements, when we have more time to make corrections and see what we can improve. It's more specific work, to clean up the exercises. We believe we can surprise at the Olympic Games. If everything goes well here, we'll return to Brazil with great strength," explained Georgette Vidor, coordinator of women's artistic gymnastics at the Brazilian Gymnastics Confederation (CBG).
This Saturday (2), Milena Theodoro and coach Keli Kitaura will take a break from activities in Portugal and will go to France for a tournament with only French gymnasts and those from invited countries.
