Regardless of medals, the women's artistic gymnastics team can be proud of making history in Beijing. For the first time, the team qualified for the team final. Rio de Janeiro native Jade Barbosa, their biggest hope for a podium finish, also performed well and secured her place in the individual all-around (which includes all apparatus) and vault. Daiane dos Santos, meanwhile, will have the chance to exorcise the ghost of Athens 2004 with a repeat appearance in the floor final.

The team formed by Ana Cláudia Silva, Daiane dos Santos, Daniele Hypolito, Ethiene Franco, Jade Barbosa and Laís Souza totaled 233.800 points and came in seventh place among the eight classified.

Jade Barbosa placed 12th in the all-around (24 gymnasts qualified) and seventh on vault. Daiane drew applause from the audience with her new performance to the tune of "Brasileirinho" and placed fifth on floor exercise.
