The battle wasn't as close as expected or imagined. With a performance that would be the envy of many teams, the Brazilian women's water polo team defeated Cuba 10-5 (3-0 / 3-3 / 2-0 / 2-2). With this result, Brazil qualified in 3rd place and advances to the semifinals, where they will face 2nd-place Canada. The game will be on Thursday at 18 p.m.

It couldn't be any different. Marina Canetti (4), center of the Brazilian team and the oldest of the sisters that make up the Canetti trio (the largest family at the Rio-2007 Pan American Games, which also includes the presence of her father, Antonio Canetti – assistant coach of the women's water polo team), was one of the highlights of the Brazilian team.

Marina scored just one goal, early in the first quarter, and even missed an excellent opportunity to further increase the Brazilian team's lead over the Cubans by missing a beautiful goal late in the fourth and final quarter. But the red-and-black team shone, along with the entire team, which showed grit throughout the game.

The United States is the favorite to win the Pan American Championship. Whoever wins Thursday's match will face the American fortress.
