Brazil secured two bronze medals in the rowing finals, held on Tuesday morning (July 17th) on the Rodrigo de Freitas Lagoon tracks. However, one of the boats that had a good chance of winning a medal, the Men's Lightweight Double Sculls, formed by the red-and-black José Carlos Sobral Júnior and Thiago Gomes, did not overcome their opponents and let the podium slip away in the final meters of the race.

The gold medal went to the Cubans. The United States and Chile followed with silver and bronze.

In the preliminary phase, held on Saturday, the first day of rowing competition at the Rio-2007 Pan American Games, the Brazilians beat the Chilean team with a time of 6'38”66, finishing behind the United States team, which won the event with 6'33”09.
